首先， “停水” 不能翻译成很多朋友会想到的 “stop water” ，它不仅仅是中式英语，直接是错误的表达，老外听了只会懵掉，摸不到头脑。

1.be off
口语化表达。 be off 是 离开 的意思，水离开，自然是 停水 了。
例句
The water will be off tomorrow.
明天停水。
A pipe broke in the street so the water is off.

2.cut off
切断，中断（如电、煤气、水等的供应）
往往是因为欠费，或维修被断水，停水。
例句

3.shut off

5.back on
重新开始，回来。
水回来了，也就是来水了。

1.be off
be off 可以表示 “停水” ，也可以用来表示 “停电” 。
例句
No one knows when the electricity will be off in this city.
没人知道这个城市什么时候停电。
The power is off. We will have to postpone the meeting.
停电了，我们得把会议推后了。
2.cut off
跟停水一样，多是因为欠费，或维修 被断电 。也可以用 stop ，比如 “停电了” ，翻译成 The electricity had been cut off. 和 The electricity supply is stopped. 皆可。

3.power blackout
多是 意外断电，停电 。
例句
The entire city experienced a power blackout yesterday.

4.power outage
英式英语中常用： power cut 。
不过 power outage 往往是 意外停电 ，而 power cut 多指人为因素的停电， 主动切断电源 供应。

5.power failure

具体的的交通工具也可以用 by boat（乘小船） ， by ship（乘轮船） 等。

2.like water
大量地；如水一般
本意是 “像水一样” ，更多用来引申表示量大。

3.in deep water
在困境中，在危难中，处境尴尬
不要理解为 “在深水处” ，它用来比喻某人陷入困境或处境尴尬，也可以理解成我们常说的 “处于水深火热之中” 。和 in hot water 意思相近。
